WHY BLACKLIGHT
My earliest memories of music, and of falling in love with it, were around my cousins. Those times were valuable—making something with family. We were close and so devoted to the love of it. We lived in a small two-bedroom townhouse, ten of us, figuring it out.
We made our first music video that felt like a movie—the kind you laugh at now, but it was still so deep that you respect it. And the music was good!
The desire to honor what sound meant to us as a species came to me around that time and was refined along the way. Plus, they were incredibly talented. So was I, but I had to learn how to hone in on it.
Around that same time lived the idea of doing a series built around unreleased music. It was going to be called Blacklight.
Life happened before that idea ever came to fruition.
So Blacklight Sessions is also about paying respect to those beginnings—and finally closing that thought. There wouldn’t be a Phruu without certain phases of the journey, but this one sits near the top. The name may change as we go on, nonetheless, a perfect start.
Respect to you and yours, where it started and where you continue to take it. Stay creative, surprise us.
